Ear Mites Basics

Ear Mites Basics

Does your pup go to town with scratching their Ears?

Ear mites can catch a dog owner off guard if they don’t know what ear mite symptoms to look for and what exactly they are. Ear mites are tiny spider-like parasites that love to live inside a dog’s ear canal. They will feed on the wax in your dog’s ears and prefer to live in a dark, warm, moist, environment. Ear mite symptoms are brought about as a result of being in direct contact with an infested animal or even its bedding. These small mites are very contagious between dogs. Ear mite symptoms can affect and infest cats, rabbits, and ferrets. They live an average life cycle of approximately 3 weeks.

Dog owners will typically notice one or more of these ear mite symptoms.

  • Dogs with ear mites are constantly scratching behind or inside their ears, using their feet, rubbing their ears on the ground, or shaking their heads incessantly.
